This is for . Thanks to her I can't stop drawing Professor Layton fanarts. She draws the dreamiest Layton. Unfortunately, I can't draw dreamboat Layton. XD
For this picture I tried a different cg method than my usual. Instead of going from light to dark, I went with dark to light with blobs of colors. I also tried to minimize my use of soft brushes so 99.5% of this pic was done with hard and texture brushes. This picture totally kicked my butt because of my lack of knowledge in contour and anatomy. Oh well. This pic isn't quite done yet, but I wanted to post this now because I won't be able to work on this more until next week.
It looks like he's missing his index finger, but that's because the brim of the hat is hiding it. Why is the preview looking so gross?!
9/1 - made some changes that probably no one except myself would notice.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I am trying so hard not to "PFFFFT" and scream "HOLYSHITAWESOME" because I'm in the school's cold library. But I would if I was at home. DAMN that colouring is amazing. And he still looks like a dreamboat : D
Wow. Wish I was this courageous with my shading. You don't really do this type of painting very often. You should - even though it's time consuming, it comes out really nice.
Why did you limit your use of soft brushes? Those are pretty much all I shade with. The texture looks nice for it, I was just wondering why.

You beat me to this. I really wanted to do a realistic Layton, but I'll probably finish it this weekend, when I finally find a picture to use and start shading it (I'd use just pencils, from 4H to 6B, so no color...)

Thank you! Right now I'm torn between trying more realistic style and more cartoony style, which you probably can see in my recent works, but it's a lot of fun trying something new and challenging.
Yay~ I'm so glad you liked it! Using a more limited color palette was surprisingly fun. Hehe.
Oh, I didn't get a chance to reply to your last message. I think it would be awesome to see you make some pixel arts or someone should make some sprites from your characters. :3

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

The photonotes.org Dictionary of Film and Digital Photography is one place to stop and get it all answered. This is quite a valuable resource that explains in depth what a photography term means, and will help those understand who might not know what something is.
